The Judgement
[ Motion Graphics ]
ROLE: Graphic Designer
TOOLS: Photoshop, Aftereffects
OVERVIEW
The Judgment is a conceptual title sequence inspired by Dante’s Inferno, reimagined through tarot symbolism, collage, and motion design. As Creative Director, I led a team of three in developing the narrative, storyboards, production schedule, and design direction. The sequence visualizes a character’s descent into the nine circles of hell, blending surrealism, dark fantasy, and cinematic pacing.
CHALLENGE
-
Adapt a complex literary source (Dante’s Inferno) into a fast-paced, cinematic 1.5–2 minute title sequence.
-
Align four team members with different skills and creative approaches under one cohesive vision.
-
Balance practical constraints (limited time, resources, and equipment) with the ambition of a large-scale multimedia project.
PROCESS
-
Creative Direction: Designed and distributed a detailed production guide outlining tasks, timelines, and role assignments.
-
Storyboarding: Sketched and structured every scene, from live-action filming in NYC to tarot-based surreal sequences.
-
Collaboration: Directed team members (Celine, Tara Green, and Michael) by assigning roles—modeling, illustration, collage, filming, editing—while maintaining aesthetic and narrative cohesion.
-
Animated all of the scenes on AfterEffects1
OUTCOME
-
Delivered a surreal title sequence that visualizes the descent through Dante’s nine circles of hell.
-
Produced a professional, gallery-ready piece that highlights both art direction and team management skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to take a large, abstract concept from planning to execution—balancing leadership, design, and technical production.
